Dowlaiswaram Ashram – Vanaprasthashram – A Spiritual Home for the Aged :
On the banks of the holy Godavari, in the vicinity of Dowlaiswaram shines forth
with heavenly glory the Sundara Chaitanya Ashram, the Brindavan of our times. It
was the first ashram set up by Swamiji in the year 1984. It was a simple ashram
with a humble beginning. The ashram was literally born in debts, and financial resources
to run the ashram were practically nil. But having made a beginning Swamiji was
determined to make it a success. Most of his devotees then were common people leading
modest and quiet lives. They were neither people of wealth, position nor influence.
Yet, they were generous, large-hearted, honest and devoted. With the love and co-operation
of these true devotees Swamiji could withstand the trials and face the hardships
he was put to by the selfish, unscrupulous, heartless and hypocritical people of
the society.
The ashram at Dowlaiswaram is a divine hermitage where thousands seek solace from
the pangs and pains of life; a place where countless people tired of the toils and
trials of life throng to recover and regain strength.
Natural surroundings, reverberating with divine music and studded with ‘Dhyana kutirs’
enhance the beauty and value of this abode of saints which eternally welcomes, soothes
and enlivens the devotees. Enlightening literature blends with melodious music to
transport us to heights of celestial joy in this beautiful ashram, which has none
to match its serenity and sanctity but the ancient Kanvashram.
The ashram has now been converted into a Vanaprastha Ashram, which is a spiritual
home for the old, and retired people who in the autumn of their lives, wish to lead
a life of recluse in peace and tranquility away from the din of the world. The fountain
of love that springs from this sacred earth quenches the thirst and revives the
spirits of those aged people who would want to be loved, cared for, and spiritually
nurtured in the loving hands of Swamiji.
